The Pininfarina designed and built 124 Spider saw a very healthy production run between 1966 and 1980. Globally 178,439 examples were built and sold. It seems that many cars are thought of as a classic these days, but to really achieve classic car status a model should have a historical interest, a timeless uniqueness and continue to be held in high regard. The 124 Spider certainly qualifies and is deserving of these accolades. With beautiful elegant lines from the pen of Pininfarina and a lively twin cam engine, it is easy to see how this car forged its cult status the world over. The revolutionary twin cam engine designed by the ex-Ferrari engineer Aurelio Campredi was the first mass produced DOHC to make use of rubber timing belts, a concept still adopted by manufactures to this very day.
Having been subject to a recent sympathetic restoration, the Maroon coachwork presents without fault. A US delivered car imported into the UK in 2016 the chrome-work is bright and free from pitting. This example retains its original badges along with many other original features.
All internal finishes present in fantastic order showing little signs of wear. The dash remains un-cracked. All original dials and switches are present and in good working order.
Having been subject to a recent overhaul, mechanically this example can be regarded as excellent. Upon arrival to our facility the car was taken through our extensive 131 point mechanical inspection with any faults rectified. The car will be sold with a comprehensive 6 months extendable warranty and up to date MOT.
With all round disk brakes, on test the brakes provide ample stopping power. The discs and pads show little wear and look to have been replaced very recently. This example benefits from 13’ period alloy wheels matched with Dunlop radial tyres showing plenty of tread.
